Sunday Morning Services are held in the building and online on Zoom at 10.30am. We aim for our worship to be inclusive and diverse, and so we have 4 different 'styles' of service.
Traditional
This service usually contains five hymns, some prayers and a sermon. We call it traditional because the structure of the service leans more towards what people may call a 'typical' church service. This is a style that can connect us to our church heritage and reminds us of the generations of faith communities who have worshipped this way.
Cafe
In this service the chairs are around tables and tea and coffee is served at the beginning. This format allows for more discussion and typically will not involve a sermon. There is time for reflection and working through what the readings for the day might be saying to us.
Communion
At this service we share in Holy Communion. Bread and wine are blessed and shared. We do this in a few different ways! Sometimes we'll stay in our seats and the bread and wine will be brought around to us, or we may form a line in front of the communion table and take it in turn to receive the elements. Occasionally we'll be invited to go up by a steward and form a line in front of the chancel, the bread and wine will be offered along the line and then a blessing given. The steward or minister will explain which way the elements are being shared.
Alternatives
The sermon is just one of a few choices you have at this service! You can choose to stay and listen (and sometimes discuss) or choose another 'breakout' activity. These can range from a bible study or reflective session, to a music workshop or creative activity. We begin the service gathered together then split for the breakaway sessions before gathering together again to conclude worship.
We occasionally have what is called a Local Arrangement. This is a service led by members of the congregation. It can take many different forms and allows the congregation to be a part of preparing worship. The Methodist church says ''Worship is the work of the whole people of God: a congregation is not an audience or a group of spectators.” (Methodist Worship Book (MWB), Preface, p. vii" To discover more about Local Arrangement services, visit the Methodist website here.
